The Challenge
Meridian Hospitality operates four hotels and four restaurant concepts across the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain. The corporate structure separates property-owning entities from operating companies, with management fees flowing between them. Add F&B supplies from a central commissary and shared marketing services, and intercompany activity exceeded $2.4 million monthly.
The complexity wasn't the volume—it was the matching. A management fee booked in the operating company needed to offset against the corresponding receivable in the holding company, but timing differences, currency conversions (AED, QAR, BHD), and inconsistent descriptions made automated matching impossible.
Month-end became a forensic accounting exercise. The team maintained a 200-line elimination journal that took three people two days to prepare and review.
The Solution
Exasum implemented rule-based elimination matching using counterparty account codes and transaction type tags. When the operating company books a management fee payable, the system automatically identifies the offsetting receivable based on the entity pair and account mapping.
For timing differences, Exasum's staging workflow lets the team review proposed eliminations before finalizing—catching any mismatches before they hit consolidated statements.
Currency eliminations use the same rate logic as the consolidation, ensuring intercompany positions net to zero even across AED/QAR/BHD transactions.
