Greenfield Partners is a growth equity firm with $280 million under management across 12 portfolio companies spanning SaaS, healthcare services, and light manufacturing. Each company maintained its own accounting practices—some on QuickBooks, others on Xero, and two larger ones on NetSuite. The investment team needed consolidated portfolio performance for LP reporting, but every company used different charts of accounts. A healthcare clinic's "Medical Supplies" might map to a SaaS company's "Cost of Goods Sold" at the holding level—or might not map at all. "We had 12 companies and zero comparability," explained their VP of Finance. "We couldn't answer basic questions like 'What's our total portfolio gross margin?' without a week of work."

Exasum's mapping layer became the translation engine across all 12 entities. The team defined a master group chart of accounts reflecting how Greenfield wanted to analyze the portfolio, then mapped each company's native accounts—preserving the original detail while enabling group-level aggregation. For companies using QuickBooks and Xero, direct API connections automated data flow. For the NetSuite entities, scheduled CSV exports maintained the pipeline. Dimensional analysis let Greenfield slice the portfolio by investment thesis, vintage year, and sector—dimensions that didn't exist in any underlying system.
